Liberal Candidate for Hume Angus Taylor says the Coalition intends to restructure the incentive program aimed at attracting more doctors to regional and rural areas.

The review will look at why the indexed program has some towns classified as inner regional when they're situated well away from major centres.

The ratio of doctors to patients in some parts of the Hume electorate is one to 3000 when that figure should be closer to one to 1000.

Mr. Taylor says the right support systems need to be put in place to fix the problem.
