The  life expired bridge over the Shoalhaven River at O'Allen Ford  between Nowra and Goulburn is to be replaced, after a special one off grant  of more than $2 million from the state government.

The low level timber bridge is currently the subject of a weight limit, which effectively means trucks are banned from crossing the river.

Following representations from local Upper House MP Paul Green, Roads Minister Duncan Gay has announced funding of $2.2 million over the next two financial years.

Mr Green says the new bridge is long overdue.

With Katter's Australian Party entering the battle for the Federal seat of Hume Federal Member Alby Schultz has issued a blunt assessment of the Queensland parties chances.

Earlier in the week 56 year old Bruce Nicholson from Tahmoor signalled his intentions to stand in the seat after being given the all clear by party officials.

Mr. Schultz says it remains to be seen whether the party's support in Queensland will be translated to the regions of NSW.

Mr. Nicholson has worked in hospitality, as a labourer and currently takes care of foster children.

He says he bases his political philosophy around a no frills attitude and is tired of being part of the silent majority.

The KAP won two seats in its first Queensland election, and gained 11.46 per cent of the primary vote across the state.

The party is predicting it could win four seats in western NSW
