Federal Member for Hume Alby Schultz is warning people after an elderly lady was forced to pay for dental work she thought would be covered by medicare.

The dentist even contacted Medicare himself and told her she wouldn't have to foot the bill.

This comes after the Government recently cut the $1 billion Medicare Chronic Disease Dental Scheme that was funding the woman's treatment.

Mr. Schultz says people need to ensure they make their own enquiries via Fair Trading to avoid being left out of pocket.

Around 500 community workers employed in the private sector will receive a pay rise after the State Government announced an extra $1 billion in funding.

Workers pay packets are expected to increase between 23 and 45 per cent over the next 10 years.

Some of the non-government agencies to benefit include Anglicare, the Challenge Foundation and the Goulburn Family Support Service.

In the meantime Goulburn MP and Minister for Community Services Pru Goward says the increase is long overdue.

A woman was rushed to Goulburn Base Hospital after being been bitten by a funnel web spider at Bannister Lane in Gurrundah just out of Goulburn.

The 47 year old's condition was listed as stable when paramedics arrived.

Male funnel-webs tend to leave their burrows in search of females during mating season, which is normally in summer and autumn.

Around 12 people are bitten every year with the last death occurring in 1982 where a two year old boy died.
