Crookwell residents without digital TV reception have been told they'll have to pay more than $700 to access 16 free-to-air digital channels.

There are no towers designed to provide commercial digital TV to the Crookwell area forcing over 30 locals to meet with representatives from a satellite company recently.

Upper Lachlan Shire Mayor John Shaw says it's not the ideal scenario but is the only option for people who don't receive a signal from an earth-based transmitter.
