Tough decisions taken years ago on Goulburn's water safety are putting the city in a highly favourable light, according to mayor, Bob Kirk.

He has compared centres like Tamworth and Tenterfield which face a tough time if they don't receive rain soon.

One of the measures put in place by Goulburn was the construction of the Highland Source Pipeline from the Wingecarribee area.

Mayor Kirk says the response from the city's residents in years past, has combined with the Highland Source pipeline decision to put Goulburn in an enviable position.

A man appeared briefly in the Goulburn court late last week charged with murdering another man near Bateman's Bay earlier in the year.

In April, emergency services were called to a home at Surfside after reports of a stabbing.

Police attended and found a 29 year old man with stab wounds to his torso.

He was unable to be revived and died at the scene.

Two men aged 18 and 48 were arrested at the time, however they were released pending further inquiries.

After further investigation the 18 year old was re-arrested at a hotel in Goulburn last Thursday and charged with murder.

In addition, a 46 year old woman has been arrested in Bateman's Bay and charged with concealing a serious indictable offence.
