Significant challenges are being presented in efforts to conserve Goulburn's historic St Clair cottage in Sloane street.

Final approvals for conservation procedures were received by Goulburn Mulwaree Council in April but conditions imposed by the Office of Environment and Heritage have created accessibility issues.

As part of advice, members of council have been told that replacement of internal stairs and the reconfiguration of one room is not approved.

The Environment and Heritage Office has advised that the stair's removal would reduce the integrity, significance and interpretive potential of the cottage.

The long awaited Joint Regional Planning Panel approval for the multi million dollar redevelopment of the Goulburn Aquatic Centre has been given.

Goulburn Mulwaree mayor, Bob Kirk has welcomed the decision for what will be an important project for the city and wider area.

Council has allocated $29 million for stage one of re-development.

This includes refurbishment of the present 25 metre pool, an additional 10 lane indoor pool, hydro-therapy water area and an outdoor water play area.

There will also be a cafe, new change rooms and amenities along with car parking and landscaping upgrades.

Mayor Kirk says it is hoped to award the tender for construction by the end of the year.

With the strength of more than 150 cricketers in the Goulburn area behind him, cricket president, Tim Price last night, made the case that the new pavillion at Seiffert oval should be named after Ken Robson.

He was addressing Goulburn Mulwaree council in open forum and stated Mr Robson's credentials for his support of cricket and the community generally.

Mr Price was successful but it wasn't all cricket's way with Margaret Murdoch arguing that the new building should be named after John Burns.

Similarly, 13 year old Trinity Catholic College student, Anbarasan Mitchell addressed council and said that former local sportsman, Ray Harvey should be honoured.

On the vote, Ken Robson's name won through and Mr Price says the decision will be well received.
