Police have defended their crackdown on drugs and transport offences on the Hume Highway, rejecting claims the recent Operation Herculean was reminiscent of the days of Nazi Germany.
Cars and trucks were stopped and searched at the Marulan trucking station, but some locals have claimed the crackdown was un-Australian.
They were particularly concerned at the way innocent people, were subject to checks by drug sniffer dogs, especially in the presence of children.
Goulburn Local Area Command Crime Manager Inspector Ward Hanson says far from being criticised, some people who were searched even praised police, for their proactive approach
