Federal Member Alby Schultz says the National Party would be breaking a signed agreement if James Harker Mortlock stood as an independent.

The Chairman of the Burrinjuck Nationals has announced he'll be contesting the seat of Hume but will be giving 2nd preference votes to Liberal candidate Angus Taylor.

Mr. Harker Mortlock from Yass intends to retain his membership while campaigning and will seek to become a member of the National Party party room if elected.

Mr. Schultz says a document signed by the coalition sets out that the National Party aren't allowed to run a candidate.
